A child's first visit
- Before the visit
Tell us about your child
Let us know their age, any previous dental experience and whether they are anxious, so we plan the right length of appointment.
- Step 1
Meet, count, ride the chair
The first visit is about confidence: sitting in the chair, counting teeth and looking at the instruments, with a parent beside them.
- Step 2
Examination and photos
We check every tooth, the gums and how the bite is developing. Radiographs are taken only when there is a clear reason.
- Step 3
Clean, fluoride, sealants
A polish, fluoride varnish and sealants where the back teeth need protection, all painless and quick.
- Step 4
Plan for parents
You leave with a written plan, brushing and snack advice, and a recall date. Any treatment needed is booked separately.
Advice for parents
- Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste suited to their age, and supervise until about seven.
- Spit, don't rinse after brushing, so the fluoride stays on the teeth.
- Keep sugary drinks and snacks to mealtimes, frequency matters more than quantity.
- If an adult tooth is knocked out, keep it in milk and contact us immediately, minutes matter.
