Bring the crown with you if you can, often it can be cleaned and re-cemented the same day.

- Take your usual painkiller at the correct dose unless you have been advised otherwise.
- Rinse with warm salt water; never hold an aspirin against the gum.
- Keep a knocked-out adult tooth in milk and get to a dentist within the hour.
- Seek urgent medical help if swelling closes your eye, reaches your neck or affects swallowing or breathing.

- Will the tooth have to be taken out?
- Not usually. Most painful teeth can be saved with root canal treatment or a restoration. Extraction is discussed only when the tooth cannot be restored predictably.
