Introduction
Crowns and bridges are the second most requested treatment among patients travelling to Albania. This article explains the material differences, the realistic timeline, and how to tell a reasonable treatment plan from an over-treated one.
TLDR;
- Typical saving of 55–70% against UK private fees.
- Treatment finishes within four to six days, in a single trip.
- Monolithic zirconia is strongest; e.max looks better on front teeth.
- Crowns remove tooth tissue, that is irreversible.
- A twenty-crown plan for cosmetic reasons should be questioned.
- Always ask for written guarantees and the material brand.
Zirconia, e.max or metal-ceramic
Monolithic zirconia is the default for back teeth: fracture-resistant and suited to high bite forces. Layered zirconia and e.max (lithium disilicate) give more natural translucency for front teeth. Metal-ceramic is used less and less, because gum recession exposes a grey line at the neck of the tooth.

The single-trip timeline
Day 1: consultation, radiographs, treatment plan and tooth preparation, with temporary crowns fitted.
Days 2–4: laboratory work and framework try-in.
Days 5–6: bite adjustment, final cementation and maintenance instructions.
Questions you should ask
- Which exact material is used, and from which manufacturer?
- Is a full crown really needed, or would a filling or onlay be enough?
- How many years of guarantee are offered, and what voids it?
- Will I receive the digital files and a treatment report for my own dentist?
The honest limits
Crowns do not make a tooth unbreakable and they do not fix grinding. If you clench at night you need a night guard, without one, even zirconia eventually fails. Equally, crowning teeth with active gum disease is wasted money until the gums are stabilised.
