Aftercare
Veneer aftercare
Porcelain and e.max veneers need very little maintenance, but the first fortnight and your long-term habits decide whether they last five years or fifteen.
Key takeaways
- • Mild cold sensitivity for one to two weeks is normal.
- • Veneers do not whiten, so whiten before, not after.
- • A night guard is essential if you grind your teeth.
What to expect, step by step
First 48 hours
Let the bond mature
Avoid very hot or very cold drinks, staining foods and anything hard. Your gums may feel tender where the veneers meet them.
Week 1 to 2
Sensitivity settles
Cold sensitivity fades. Use a sensitivity toothpaste and a soft brush; speech adapts to the new edges within a few days.
Ongoing
Protect the edges
Floss daily, keep six-monthly hygiene visits, and wear your night guard. Coffee, red wine and tobacco stain the natural teeth and the bonding line, not the ceramic itself.
Do this
- Floss gently every day, sliding the floss out sideways.
- Use a non-abrasive toothpaste.
- Wear the night guard if you clench or grind.
Avoid this
- Do not bite nails, pens, ice or hard crusts with the front teeth.
- Do not use whitening or charcoal pastes; they dull the glaze.
- Do not use your teeth as tools.
Contact us straight away if
- A veneer chips, feels rough or debonds.
- Your bite feels high on one tooth after a few days.
- Sensitivity that gets worse rather than better after two weeks.
