Aftercare

Composite bonding aftercare

Composite is repairable and forgiving, but it stains more easily than porcelain. The first 48 hours and your daily habits decide how bright it stays.

Key takeaways

  • Avoid staining food and drink for the first 48 hours.
  • Composite can be polished and repaired at any review.
  • Expect a polish every 12 to 18 months.

What to expect, step by step

  1. First 48 hours

    The white diet

No coffee, tea, red wine, curry, tomato sauce, berries or tobacco. The composite absorbs pigment most in the first two days.

  2. Week 1

    Getting used to the shape

Edges feel new to the tongue and lip for a few days. Tell us if the bite catches anywhere; a two-minute adjustment fixes it.

  3. Every 12 to 18 months

    Polish and top-up

A quick polish restores the shine, and any small chip can be added to without redoing the whole tooth.

Do this

  • Rinse with water after coffee, tea or wine.
  • Brush twice daily with a soft brush.
  • Book a hygiene visit every six months.

Avoid this

  • Do not bite nails or open packets with bonded teeth.
  • Avoid whitening pastes with harsh abrasives.
  • Do not smoke; it yellows composite fastest.

Contact us straight away if

  • A piece chips off or an edge feels sharp.
  • The bonding catches your floss every time.
