Aftercare

Teeth whitening aftercare

The 48 hours after whitening decide how long the result lasts. Here is the white diet, how to handle sensitivity and how to top up safely at home.

Key takeaways

  • Keep to a white diet for 48 hours.
  • Zingy sensitivity for a day or two is normal and temporary.
  • Results typically last one to two years with top-ups.

What to expect, step by step

  1. First 48 hours

    White diet

Chicken, rice, pasta, white fish, potatoes, milk and water. No coffee, tea, cola, red wine, tomato sauce, soy sauce or tobacco.

  2. Day 1 to 3

    Sensitivity

Short sharp twinges are common. Use a sensitivity toothpaste, skip very cold drinks and leave a day between home-kit applications.

  3. Every 6 to 12 months

    Top-up nights

Two or three nights with your custom trays restores the shade. Keep the trays clean and stored dry.

Do this

  • Drink dark liquids through a straw for the first week.
  • Use a sensitivity toothpaste before and after.

Avoid this

  • Do not smoke; it undoes the result fastest.
  • Do not over-use the home kit hoping for faster results.

Contact us straight away if

  • Sensitivity that keeps you awake or lasts beyond a week.
