Aftercare
Crown and bridge aftercare
How to look after zirconia and e.max crowns and bridges, from the temporary stage in Tirana to years of normal use at home.
Key takeaways
- • Temporary crowns are glued lightly on purpose, so treat them gently.
- • Gum tenderness for a week after fitting is normal.
- • Cleaning under a bridge daily is what makes it last.
What to expect, step by step
Temporary stage
Between the two appointments
Chew on the other side, avoid sticky sweets and slide floss out sideways so the temporary stays on until the fit appointment.
First week after fitting
Bite and gums settle
Slight cold sensitivity and tender gums are normal. If one tooth touches first when you close, come back for a small adjustment.
Long term
Clean the margin every day
Crowns do not decay, but the tooth underneath can. Daily flossing at the gum line and six-monthly hygiene are what keep them for 10 to 15 years.
Do this
- Use Superfloss or an interdental brush under bridges.
- Keep the crown margin plaque-free at the gum line.
- Wear a night guard if you grind.
Avoid this
- Do not chew ice or hard nuts on a crowned tooth.
- Do not re-glue a loose crown with household glue.
Contact us straight away if
- A crown or bridge comes off; keep it and message us.
- Pain on biting that lasts more than a week.
- Food packing under a bridge every meal.
